Goatapir

A goatapir about to drink from the watering hole.

Goatapir is a future North American descendant of South American tapirs that survived and either escaped from zoos or have spread from their homeland from South America. They fill a similar niche to the extinct goats and sheep in North America. They are herbivores that mainly feed on grass, leaves, nuts, and ferns. Despite their appearance, they are not part of the Psudeotapirid family, but just close relatives, due to convergent evolution, as they both evolved from the same ancestors.

Evolution[]

South American Tapir

South American tapirs were the ancestors of both goatapirs and Psudeotapirid.

After the Late Holocene ended, humans are now gone, but it was already too late for sheep and goats of North America. Tapirs had arrived into North America, either through zoo escapees or they had spread from South America, to replace them. The ancestors of goatapirs evolved longer and stronger legs for running fast. They also became more efficient grazers than their ancestors. They also became more social animals that live in herds up to about 16. The tapirs had evolved into goatapirs.
