The Imperial Enslavements refer to the Galactic Empire's enslavement of tens of thousands of alien species across the Universe. These include the Vulcans, Andorians, Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Dominion Changelings, Jem'Hadar, Vorta, Bajorans, Trill, Voth, Kazons, Gorns, Borg, Mon Calamari, Ewoks, Lurrians, Wookiees, Jawas, Geonosians, Gungans, Kaminoans, and Na'vi. Most of these campaigns occurred in 19 and 18 BBY, with one in 10 BBY, one in 9 BBY, and one in 3 BBY.

Background

The end of the Clone Wars saw the reorganization of the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire. The Empire, unlike the Republic, was militaristic and authoritarian. Within the first few years of it's establishment, the Empire conducted the largest military buildup the Universe ever witnessed, eventually amassing the largest military in the history of the Universe. It also began construction on the Death Star, a station with the power to destroy a planet with a single shot of its' fearsome superlaser. Although the Empire imperialized all the corporations which had supported the Confederacy of Independent Dimensions during the Clone Wars, it's war machine still needed labor, resources, and scientific laboratories. The enslavement campaigns conducted by the Empire originated from this need. The Empire targeted a wide range of races for enslavement, including the Vulcans, Andorians, Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Dominion Changelings, Jem'Hadar, Vorta, Bajorans, Trill, Voth, Kazons, Gorns, Borg, Mon Calamari, Ewoks, Lurrians, Wookiees, Jawas, Geonosians, Gungans, Kaminoans, and Na'vi. Most of these species had needs which the Empire wanted to exploit. For example, the Vulcans are known for their intelligence and their scientific academies and laboratories; the Klingons for their great physical strength and their world's natural resources; the Romulans for their mines and factories; the Mon Calamari for their shipyards and labor; the Wookiees for their physical strength and their engineering skills; and the Na'vi for their physical strength and natural resources. The following list shall explore what political status each race enjoyed before they were enslaved by the Empire:

  • The Vulcans were founding members of the Galactic Republic; they continued to remain voluntary members of the Galactic Empire until their enslavement in 19 BBY
  • The Andorians, like the Vulcans, were founding members of the Galactic Republic, and retained membership status until their enslavement in 19 BBY
  • The Klingons had joined the Galactic Republic as members around 23,000 BBY, when their ancient Empire had been defeated by Republic forces; they retained membership status until their enslavement in 18 BBY
  • The Romulans had joined the Republic as members around 6,000 BBY; during the Clone Wars, they seceded from the Republic and joined the Confederacy of Independent Dimensions; by the end of the Wars, they were back under Republic control, and were among the first races enslaved by the Empire
  • The Cardassians had joined the Republic as members around 4,000 BBY; like the Romulans, during the Clone Wars they seceded from the Republic, becoming members of the Confederacy of Independent Dimensions; shortly after the Empire's proclamation, they were brought under Imperial control and enslaved
  • The Changelings, Jem'Hadar, and Vorta had all enjoyed diplomatic protectorship status under the Republic, since 8,000 BBY, becoming such under the Empire, and were enslaved in 18 BBY
  • The Bajorans had been independent of the Galactic Republic; during the Clone Wars they fell into their own civil war, which lasted until they were subjugated and enslaved by the Empire in 9 BBY
  • The Trill and the Voth had both been members of the Republic since 20,000 BBY, and they remained loyal throughout the Clone Wars; the Empire enslaved them in 18 BBY
  • The Kazons and the Gorns had been members of the Confederacy of Independent Dimensions throughout most of the Clone Wars; previously they had both been independent; they were enslaved by the Empire around the time of the enslavement of the Wookiees, in late 19 BBY
  • The Borg had been annexed into the Galactic Republic as a governorship around 24,000 BBY, when their Collective was defeated by Republic forces; during the Clone Wars, control of their region changed hands between the Republic and the Confederacy; the Empire enslaved them in 19 BBY
  • The Mon Calamari were founding members of the Galactic Republic and their membership status carried over into the Empire for a short period of time; although they attempted diplomatic negotiation, the Empire enslaved them in 19 BBY
  • The Ewoks, the Lurrians, and the Jawas had been scoundrel species, largely conducting their lives in a independent and tribal-like manner; they were all enslaved by the Empire in 19 BBY
  • The Wookiees were respected allies of the Galactic Republic, since 7,000 BBY, and held a seat on the Star Wars delegation to the Galactic Senate. The Empire enslaved them in 19 BBY
  • The Geonosians had been founding members of the Confederacy of Independent Dimensions; before-hand they had been within the Republic's territory, but relatively independent; the Geonosians were subjugated and enslaved by the Empire in 3 BBY, 16 years after the end of the Clone Wars
  • The Gungans were formally aligned with the Republic in 32 BBY, although they had resided on Naboo, one of the Republic's worlds, for thousands of years. The Empire enslaved them in 18 BBY
  • The Kaminoans were aligned to the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars, producing the Republic's clone troops; a similar arrangement continued with the Empire, until they were enslaved and placed under direct Imperial rule in 10 BBY, in the wake of a anti-Imperial rebellion
  • The Na'vi resided in the Avatar dimension, which remained undiscovered until 10 BBY; thus they remained independent of the Republic and for 9 years, the Empire; the Empire subjugated and enslaved them in 10 BBY, the same year of the discovery of their homedimension
