James "JT" Tisnewski is a character in the short-lived NBC military drama, E-Ring.
JT was born the youngest of seven children. His Polish-American father, Karl Tisnewski, was an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps while his Peruvian-American mother, Sheila Tisnewski, was a homemaker. After high school, JT went on to San Diego State University. He graduated from San Diego State with a Bachelor of Science in Management. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Army and decided to become an Army Ranger. After completing basic combat training and then advanced individual training, JT went on to the U.S. Army Airborne School. Upon completing airborne training, he was sent to the Ranger Indoctrination Program. Upon graduation of RIP, he joined the 75th Ranger Regiment. JT later attended and passed the U.S. Army Ranger School, earning the Ranger Tab.
As he rose up through the ranks, JT honed his field skills as soldier in a rifle platoon in the 3rd Ranger Battalion. Eventually, he attended the U.S. Army Air Assault School and later the Army Mountain Warfare School. Soon after he was promoted to Staff Sergeant, JT was accepted into Officer Candidate School. After OCS, he went on to the Infantry Officer Basic Course and then assigned as a platoon leader to the 1st Ranger Battalion. He eventually rose to the position of a company executive officer. Soon after being promoted to Captain, JT attended the Infantry Officer Advanced Course at Fort Benning. A little while later, he applied to join Special Forces. After completing the Special Forces Assessment and Selection course, JT was accepted into the Special Forces Qualification Course at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center. Upon completing the entire training process, he joined the United States Army Special Forces. As a Green Beret, JT served as a detachment commander in the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group.
His dedication and finely tuned field skills led to him receiving numerous commendations. Eventually, recruiters for the U.S. Army's 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta ("Delta Force") took notice of JT's abilities and approached him about joining their ranks. Upon successful completion of another Assessment and Selection Course, he went on to the Operator Training Course. After completing the course, JT joined Delta Force as an assault troop commander. As a Delta Force operator, he excelled in every mission, and was selected for highly critical and sensitive assignments. After a long stint in special ops, JT's skills, knowledge, and experience lead him to become an S-3, head of operations of a battalion at Fort Bragg with his own administrative assistant and staff of 28 soldiers.
Later, he was assigned to the most important battlefield of all: The Pentagon. JT serves as the adjutant to Colonel Eli McNulty, the head of S.O.D. (Special Operations Division). As Colonel McNulty's new hatchet man in S.O.D., he is now a front row participant in the most important decisions the U.S. military has faced since World War II. From debriefing the Joint Chiefs to deploying Special Operations Forces around the world, the lives of millions now rest squarely on his shoulders. Life in the E-Ring is much different than the one JT knew before. While leading a night raid on Fedayeen fighters in Iraq may change the direction of a war, the victories won in the E-Ring can change the world. After a career spent in the trenches, Major James Tisnewski must now learn to fight razor-sharp political appointees using nothing but his wits.
