Megahyraxis is a modern genus of very large, hippo-like, desmostylus-like herbivorous hyrax relatives. Megahyraxis are mainly found in coastlines of eastern Africa, southwestern Asia, southern Asia, southeastern Asia, western North America, and Australia. Unlike the aggressive hippos, megahyraxis are purely gentle herbivores that is friendly towards humans and dylanuses. Also unlike hippos, megahyraxis can tolerate saltwater much like their neighbors, the pinnipeds (seals, sea lions, fur seals, etc). They prefer many different seaweed species, not just grass, to avoid competition with aggressive hippos of Africa. It is also one of the last living member of the Pliohyracidae family, along with the Aquahyrin, the Borealohyrax, and the Rigorutanes.
