Need For Speed: The Ultimate Collection is a complete collection of Need for Speed which includes all tracks and cars up to Need For Speed: Nitro. The game has the most cars ever found in a Need for Speed game, as it takes every single car that has ever been in Need For Speed and collaborates them into a single game. All of the possible tracks are included too, with the option to race them in reverse.

The game was in a heavy alpha state and was eventually released for free by 984 Studios.

Gameplay can be utilized in one of three modes: Street Racing (where drifting is hard, acceleration is slightly faster, physics are unreal), Nitro (where there are two Nitro bars and double-tapping the Nitro button uses them both, drifting is easy, and physics are practically nonexistent), and Shift (drifting is hardest, Nitro does not recharge, and acceleration is at real-world levels). A Silver Trophy/Achievement is available for finishing each of the modes' storylines, and a Gold Trophy/Achievement is available for finishing every one.

Street Racing

Street Racing physics work like in Need for Speed: Undercover (and more recently, Hot Pursuit). The physics are semi-realistic: cars will take reasonable amounts of damage, but they can also perform feats not possible in other classes due to the technical restrictions. In Street Racing, all cars can be customized and liviered. Nitrous must be purchased for cars, but once purchased can be tweaked and fine-tuned, and will self-recharge slowly (but recharges faster with dangerous driving).

Nitro Physics work like in Need for Speed: Nitro. Though cars are not caricatures, they have impossible 0-60/100 speeds, and can be customized in very short ways. Unlike Street Racing, a full livery editor is available to customize and paint your cars. Short customization is also allowed due to car Loyalty: the more you race a car, the more parts you'll unlock for it. Nitro is included standard with all cars and charges with everything you do: there are two bars. Hitting the Nitro button once, at any time, will allow the car to use its nitro: with both bars filled, double-tapping it will give it a short but insanely fast burst of speed. Cars can take damage which restricts Nitro bars until after the race, but it is tuned down from Nitro's levels.

Shift Physics work like in Need for Speed: Shift. All cars have realistic 0-60 times, though sometimes their other speeds are sped up. Nitrous does NOT recharge, so it must be carefully used. Cars make realistic turns and can take both body and mechanical damage: the former disrupts airflow and slows the car, the latter can total a car and render it useless. Cars can be customized in the form of a more precise livery editor and Race Modifications for some, which add parts to turn the cars into racing machines (provided they can be given parts in the first place). Advanced tuning, like customizing camber angles and such, is allowed for the cars.

Beta History

NFS Ultimate Collection v0.1 - The first ever made game, featuring the eight cars from The Need For Speed.

NFS Ultimate Collection v0.2 - An add-on for the game adds the fifteen cars featured in Need for Speed II: Special Edition. The FZR 2000, The Tombstone, and the Bomber BFS are included.

NFS Ultimate Collection v0.3 - The Police Pursuit game mode is added, allowing players to use police variants of any car (convertibles will have their tops on) to chase other players. The 23 cars from Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit are added, including Interceptor variants of the El Nino, Diablo SV, and Corvette C5 that can be used in any game mode. The Hot Pursuit mode (remniscent of the self-titled game mode in the 2009 Hot Pursuit remake) is a long ways off, but is officially confirmed by Word of God.

NFS Ultimate Collection v0.4 - Around 15 cars from Need for Speed: High Stakes and the Porsche 356 from Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed are added to the game. Local multiplayer and the "Pink Slips" racing mode are added, allowing players to race each other for their cars.

NFS Ultimate Collection v0.5 - Over 20 cars are added from Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. Other than that, there are no other significant upgrades.

NFS Ultimate Collection v0.6 - Hot Pursuit mode is "half-finished" according to Word of God: a select few players are invited in for limited beta testing of the Hot Pursuit weapons to ensure perfection. The game begins gearing up for its actual release. 17 cars from Need for Speed: Underground were released in-game.

NFS Ultimate Collection v0.7 - Gaming sites predict that at the time of its mass release, the Need for Speed Ultimate Collection will have all of the cars up to Need for Speed: ProStreet. Hot Pursuit mode becomes an open beta, restricted to few cars, but otherwise available to all. The cars from Need for Speed: Underground 2 are added to the game.

NFS Ultimate Collection v0.8 - The game is almost ready for commercial release. Hot Pursuit mode is finished, but is being saved until full release. Some cars from Need for Speed: Most Wanted are added into the game.

NFS Ultimate Collection v0.9 - The demo is offically released for consoles, containing several of the newer cars and races, excluding the Hot Pursuit mode. For anyone else with the Beta, the Need for Speed: Carbon cars are added.

NFS Ultimate Collection v1.0 - The NFS Ultimate Collection is officially released, with every car up to Need for Speed: ProStreet. Word of God immediately states that "patches" will fix bugs that alpha gamers missed and also add new cars from more games. The queue is slated as Undercover, Shift, Nitro, and then Hot Pursuit before tapering off.

NFS Ultimate Collection v1.1 - The first patch balances EMP lock-on times and item recharge times for online Hot Pursuit multiplayer matches, and adds several cars from Need for Speed: Undercover. Other than that, an insignificant update.

NFS Ultimate Collection v1.2 - The game gets a few cars from Shift, and also gets a Realistic Hot Pursuit mode: hitting a Spike Strip results in a one-hit kill, getting hit by an EMP results in a one-hit kill, jammers work for longer, everything has infinite ammo except for spike strips, and turbos will damage a car's engine and eventually total it if used too much.

NFS Ultimate Collection v1.3 - The game gets several cars from Nitro. Other than that, there are no updates.

NFS Ultimate Collection v1.4 - The game's current edition carries several cars from Hot Pursuit, a whole metric fuckton of cars from the Seacrest County Police Department (tuned for extra speed), and the race cars from Need for Speed: Shift are added.
