Warrior On The Edge of the Abyss is the third album from progressive metal band Nostradamus, released on October 15 2007. Riding on the sucess of its predecesor, 2004's Ride The Time Spiral Against The Bombardment of Technology, the album sold over 2.5 million copies in less than a month, and the band embarked on their first world tour. It is followed by 2009's A Dream Within A Dream.
According to [Toni] Mirasuki, lyrical and musical creation of the album began when he was lying in the back of his 1976 Impala, in his words "wasted as fuck, listening to Dave Brock [of Hawkwind] at his finest", meaning the famous progressive band's 1975 Warrior on the Edge of Time. "I basically wanted to write an album that somewhat paid tribute to the masters [Hawkwind]" according to Mirasuki "lying, stoned, mindfucked as hell in the back of a vintage 70's Impala is one way to write an album". Mirasuki penned the lyrics for Space Rock Operetta and Delusions of Grandeur whilst in this state.
The album was widely well recieved by most critics, selling well and averaging from 4-5 stars. However Ed Bronstein, a New York music reviewer, said: "The album is a all over the place tribute to Hawkwind, lacking the true Nostradamus style and experimentation".
